Faith, Precious to God!

Healing from narcissistic abuse initially feels like hauling off boulders of emotional pain and heaving stones of despair over the fence. For believers, this focused work fits under the broader umbrella of becoming more like Christ, i.e. sanctification.

…the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold….

I treasure the memories of holding my babies for the first time—gazing into their eyes and absorbing their preciousness.

When Peter referred to faith during trials as precious to God, I paused. I knew that as a follower of Christ I was redeemed, rescued, loved, and adopted, but I was not aware that God considered my faith precious to Him!

In the same way, Scripture says that Jesus is precious to God!

As you come to Him as to a living stone rejected indeed by men, but in the sight of God chosen and precious, you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

For it stands in Scripture:

Behold, I am laying in Zion, a stone,

a cornerstone chosen and precious,

and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame (1 Peter 2:4-6, emphasis added).

Sadly, I have no memories of feeling treasured by my earthly father or by my narcissistic spouse. I do know, though, the feeling of wrapping my arms and my heart around something priceless to me. Even though considering my faith as precious to God still feels foreign, it is a truth I choose, by faith, to joyfully embrace!

Dear Father, thank you for loving me enough to die for my sins, and reinforcing Your love with Scripture’s written words. Integrate this dynamic reality into my heart and soul so that I may live my life in constant awareness of it. In Your precious Son’s name, Jesus, I pray, amen.
