God, Grace, & Reality

Healing from narcissistic abuse initially feels like hauling off boulders of emotional pain and heaving stones of despair over the fence. For believers, this focused work fits under the broader umbrella of becoming more like Christ, i.e. sanctification.

“Grace causes us to be alive to God and causes our eyes

to be open to spiritual realities we once had no capacity to see.”

Paul David Tripp, New Morning Mercies

The way Paul Tripp phrases a biblical truth reflects my experiences in healing from narcissistic abuse.

God’s grace helps me see spiritual realities glossed over by denial and rationalization.

The Apostle Paul explained it this way:

What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us…. But we have the mind of Christ” (1 Cor. 2:12,16b).

“Ah ha” moments continue to reveal long-term ramifications of narcissistic abuse that God desires to heal. Because of God’s grace, though, I am no longer fumbling around in the dark. “Grace causes my eyes to be open to spiritual realities and consequences I once had no capacity to see!”

As I seek God’s wisdom on each confusing experience, a new awareness creates clarity and direction. Without the on-going intervention of the Lord’s perspective, I would still be wandering in the shadows of denial and rationalization of narcissistic abuse rather the light of what I once had no capacity to see.

Father, thank You that I have access to Your Spirit that I might understand all the grace You have so freely given me. Thank You that Your Word is a light for my feet and for the path ahead. May You be glorified in this journey. In Your Son’s name I pray, amen.
